Jacob Alalu & Fanny Eskenazi
Dedicated by Dr. Jaime Alalu
Jacob Alalu and Fanny Eskenazi were born in Lima, Perú to parents from Constantinople. They met in 1944 at a Sephardic synagogue event and married in 1946. In six years, they had four sons, whom they raised with strong Jewish values, a love of learning, and a deep work ethic. Married for 46 years until Jacob’s passing, they built a loving home. Their sons, very close to one another, became successful professionals and raised families that brought Jacob and Fanny great pride and joy.

Joseph Levine was born in Lithuania in 1892 and came to the United States in 1904. Sally Mack was born in Portland, Maine in 1900. They married and built a life together in Portland, raising five children, including one with autism. Joseph served in World War I, worked as a fruit and vegetable dealer, and later invested in real estate. Sally kept a kosher home, lit Shabbat candles, and lovingly cared for their family. Married for 56 years, they later moved to Miami Beach to be near their children. Their legacy lives on through a devoted and grateful family.

Simon & Henrietta Bornstein
Dedicated by Irwin & Natalie Levine
Simon Bornstein was born in Pinsk, Russia (now Belarus) in 1902 and came to America with his mother and siblings on August 4, 1920. He learned the trade of butchering from his uncle, Hyman Bornstein, and built his livelihood in that profession. Henrietta Hoffman was born in Paris, France in 1907 and immigrated to America in 1915. They married in November 1925 and raised three daughters, of whom I am the youngest. My father passed away in 1964, four years before the birth of my first son, Simon, who proudly carries his name.

Marie Gosser
Dedicated by Dr. Leo Gosser
Marie Gosser, a cherished member of our Friday Night Live community, embodied kindness, strength, and unwavering commitment to others. Born in Baghdad, her heart always belonged to Israel. With her beloved Leo, she delivered food to those in need, never seeking recognition. For over a decade, Marie lovingly prepared Kiddush weekly, enriching our gatherings with generosity and joy. Her spirited Kiddush duet with Rabbi Broide became legendary. Marie’s life reflected true kedusha — holiness through action. Her passing between Yom HaZikaron and Yom Ha’atzmaut poignantly honors her deep connection to Israel and our people.
